Whether Copper Window Screens Block Signals or Not?

In this article we would like to analyze whether window screens made of metal wire mesh (especially copper screening) block signals or not?

Copper wire mesh mainly includes three types: brass, red copper and phosphorus copper wire mesh. Doing well in anti-electromagnetic interference and sound insulation, all of them can be used as a shielding net and phosphorus copper wire mesh which is more expansive, performs best.

However, metal window screen will hardly block signals. There are some reasons as following:

• To begin with, copper wire mesh used to manufacture window screen doesn't have density as high as that used to isolate electron beam. For instance, copper fly screen in 16 mesh is one of the best-selling products, while copper wire mesh for shielding net is in 60 mesh or more intensive.
• Next, Faraday cage will not be created if your house is made of wood (Figure 1). Faraday cage, whose inner potential difference and electric field is zero, is a closed space with all-metal frame. So, if your house doesn't have both metal security door and lots of reinforcing steel bars, copper window screens will not make your house a Faraday cage to block signals.

• In conclusion, metal window screens have little effect on signals and you can put them into use at ease (Figure 2). But if you do mind, you'd better choose the nonmetallic window screens, such as fiberglass insect screen, plastic window screen, pet-proof screen and so forth. On the other hand, metal window screen (especially copper window screen) or metal wire mesh is an ideal choice to prevent the entry and escape of EM field and avoid external disturbance.
